How to Hold the Breath

Monday, June 22, 2009

A Yogi should master the ability to hold the breath in and out. Holding the breath in is always easier than keeping it out. Therefore, one must practice in order to master this technique. The reason for discomfort while keeping air out of the lungs is due to the fact that the brain has a negative reaction when the carbon dioxide (CO2) levels are too high. However, the brain does not react when the levels of oxygen (O2) fluctuate. Based on this fact, you will be able to hold the breath in or out for longer periods of time, by taking several inhales, or exhales. Exhaling or inhaling will create a change in the levels of the carbon dioxide. continue
